This is a Cruise-O-Matic transmission that came out of a 1959 Ford Thunderbird convertible, bolted up to a 352 V-8 engine see car photos included in posting. It comes with the torque converter and bell housing. I understand this same transmission fits the 59 Ford Galaxie and Edsels, plus Fords and Ford Thunderbirds up through 1965. It was a very popular transmission for the 352 and 390 engines. Heres the story We bought the T-Bird in 2015 off eBay, from a dealer in Michigan. He said the T-Bird had been restored several years prior, to include the engine AND the transmission. I have no way to verify that but do believe now that the tranny was included in the restoration. But the transmission never did work properly. I adjusted the linkage but could never get P Park or L Low with the same adjustments. I could get P or L, one or the other, but never both. I left the settings such that I always had P and gave up on L, meaning I could never gear down properly. I decided there must be a problem with the transmission. I had a spare Cruise-O-Matic out of another 59 T-Bird, so I had it rebuilt by Jerrys Transmissions here in Missoula. I had my ace mechanic install the rebuilt transmission recently, knowing that would take care of the problem. But it didnt. The problem was in the SELECTOR ARM coming out of the steering column. It was worn badly, with too much slop. That explained why we could not get the linkage adjusted properly. It was not a problem with the transmission, it was a problem with a worn out selector arm. We bought a new selector arm, it was installed, everything is tight, I now get P and L as I should. So the original transmission listed here never was faulty, as I had assumed. I am confident it works as well as the rebuilt transmission now sitting in the T-Bird. There have been no signs of oil leaks in the front or the back. Last year, the transmission did start to leak slightly around the pan gasket. I bought a new gasket, but never got around to installing it. Buyer will have to pick up the transmission himself Missoula or make arrangements for shipping, with my assistance. $700 or best offer. If you have any questions, kindly send me an e-mail. Thank you.
